About ComicTab
Welcome to ComicTab, the definitive resource for digital comic readers.
As comic enthusiasts, we know that the digital reading experience is only as good as the hardware it's
viewed on. The transition from paper to screen often leaves readers guessing: Will this tablet display a
Manga volume at its intended size? Is this screen bright enough to appreciate the deep blacks of a Noir
Graphic Novel?
ComicTab was created to take the guesswork out of the equation. We provide precise dimensional analysis,
contrasting the world's most popular tablets with the physical "trim sizes" of American Comics, Japanese
Manga, and European Franco-Belgian albums.
Beyond just size, we analyze Display Luminosity (NITs) and Pixel Density
(PPI) to ensure your digital library looks as vibrantβor even betterβthan its printed
counterpart.
Our Mission: To help you find the perfect digital canvas for your collection.

Comic Formats
We currently track the most popular comic formats. However, the world of print is vast! Here is a
breakdown of other global formats we might include in the future:
North American and Standard Formats
Standard American (Comic Book): The most widely recognized format that
defined the industry, traditionally used for superhero stories. It currently measures about 6.625 x
10.25 inches - 16.82 x 26.03 cm. Historically, this standard experienced slight size variations
across different publication eras:
Golden Age: A slightly larger and wider format, around 7.125 x 10.5 inches
- 18.1 x 26.7 cm or 7.75 x 10.5 inches - 19.7 x 26.7 cm.
Silver Age: Approximately 6.75 x 10.25 inches - 17.14 x 26.03 cm.
Graphic Novels and Trade Paperbacks: Self-contained works or compiled editions with
highly variable sizes, typically featuring a square spine (perfect binding). They are very commonly
printed at sizes like 6 x 9 inches - 15.2 x 22.9 cm to accommodate longer narratives.
Magazine Format: Measuring around 8.5 x 11 inches - 21.59 x 27.94 cm, this format
was historically used for luxurious art books, anthologies, or publications aiming to bypass the
strict censorship of the Comics Code Authority for adult or horror stories.
Fumetti (Italy): Known as the Italian pocket format. It is practical and
economical, traditionally measuring 4.7 x 6.7 inches - 12 x 17 cm, and became famous through
black-and-white publications.
Tebeos (Spain): The classic format of the Spanish market, slightly wider than the
North American model, measuring around 6.7 x 9.4 inches - 17 x 24 cm.
British Annuals: Hardcover books usually published during the holiday season for a
young audience, with broad proportions of 8.3 x 11 inches - 21 x 28 cm.
Brazilian Gibis: They adapted the American format, 6.7 x 10.2 inches - 17 x 26 cm,
but infused local cultural elements over time.
Chitrakatha (India): A traditional Indian format that blends local culture with the
American model, typically measuring 6.7 x 9.1 inches - 17 x 23 cm.
Asian Formats
Manga / TankΕbon (Japan): A format specifically designed to be portable and
cost-effective, typically measuring 5 x 7.5 inches - 12.7 x 19.05 cm or A5 size - 5.82 x 8.26 inches
- 14.8 x 21 cm. Its smaller size also facilitates the mass production of original chapters in thick
newsprint anthologies.
Alternative and Digital Formats
Digest / Pocket: A smaller, compact size often used for collected editions of
popular comic strips, measuring about 5.5 x 8.5 inches - 13.97 x 21.59 cm.
Mini-comics, Zines, and Experimental Formats: Very popular in the indie and
underground scenes. They include innovative dimensions such as thin vertical strips (3.5 x 8.5
inches - 8.89 x 21.59 cm), square formats (5.5 x 5.5 inches - 14 x 14 cm or 8.5 x 8.5 inches - 21.6
x 21.6 cm) common in modern children's books, and landscape formats (11 x 8.5 inches - 27.9 x 21.6
cm) focusing on panoramic art.
Webtoons (Digital Comics): Pioneered in South Korea, this digital format completely
abandons physical page dimensions, allowing for continuous vertical scrolling that is perfectly
optimized for smartphones and digital platforms.
